Better Than Ever: Normie Live from the Heart with The Playboys & Friends
May 2025
There’s something truly special about seeing Normie live. Maybe it’s the songs. Maybe it’s the stories. Or maybe—it’s just because there’s only one Normie. (Let’s be honest, he’s on a first-name basis with the whole country by now. Who needs a surname when you’ve been a legend for six decades?)
This isn’t a band—it’s a brotherhood. Some of these guys have been with Normie since the ‘60s. That’s over 50 years of music, mischief, and more than a few shared motel rooms.
They’re Melbourne-based, tight as ever, and let’s face it—at this point, they’re probably communicating through groans, guitar licks, and the occasional joke about farting dust.
Normie’s long-time band is more than just a group of talented musicians—they’re family. This powerhouse line-up includes:
But make no mistake: these guys can still play the house down. Whether it’s Shakin’ All Over or It’s Not Easy, The Playboys bring energy, heart, and a sound that’s as polished as it is powerful. At the launch of the new show, The Story So Far which opened in Goolwa and Bridgeway Live S.A., they had the crowd swaying and grinning from ear to ear.
In Sydney last weekend, Normie’s shows with fellow rock ’n’ roll legend Digger Revell have a different vibe—and the magic’s keps on giving. Backed by a top-notch band, the two legends share the stage, swapping tales and tunes with charm and ease.
These shows are like sitting in a lounge room with a couple of old mates—if your mates happened to be two of the biggest names in Australian music history.
Expect the hits, the harmonies, and maybe a cheeky story or two that you won’t hear anywhere else. The audience? Loyal, loving—and mostly waving from the 50 to 90-year-old section. It’s a beautiful thing.
Beyond the stage, Normie recently shared part of his personal story in a moving article for Australian Geographic. Titled “Vietnam War’s Lingering Shadow”, the feature explores the emotional legacy of the Vietnam War, something Normie has spoken about with honesty and care over the years.
