THE 2022 LEST WE FORGET ANZAC DAY TRIBUTE CONCERT | 7NEWS
Held “at the going down of the sun”, Lest We Forget commemorates through music, poetry, reflection and ceremony all those who have lost their lives in service for our country, as well as returned and current servicemen and women. As an afternoon ceremony lasting approximately one hour, Lest We Forget is appropriately juxtaposed alongside the traditional Dawn Service and the ANZAC Day March.
The Program
The 2022 program included music from composers who lived through WWI (Elgar, Holst and Copland), contemporary composers including John Williams and Australian composer John Schumann (Redgum) and feature items on the Didgeridoo, Flute and Piano. The program also included works by Australian-born composer Septimus Kelly, who grew up in Sydney, served at Gallipoli before dying at the Somme in 1916.
Tribute
The Tribute includes a Procession of Flags, the singing of the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems, music & poetry from World War I to today, The Ode, The Last Post, a minute’s silence and a time for reflection and prayer.
